The Libs are not fucking good for the economy

If you're anything like me, your eyes glaze over at the word 'economy,' and that’s a huge asset to the Australian federal government. Scott Morrison and the Coalition are banking (get it?) on the fact that a lot of young people particularly don’t understand what the fuck the economy even is, let alone what affects it. And the latest news on JobKeeper is just one example.

The ABC reported that Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg was alerted to the fact that 15% of companies receiving the JobKeeper benefit were not eligible for it, meaning they were increasing their turnover, and some were even making unprecedented profits. Huge conglomerates like Harvey Norman have been under fire for receiving government assistance despite reporting massive profits over the worst period of the pandemic.

JobKeeper payments were intended to support businesses in keeping staff employed, not for increasing profits. The Treasury tested a sample of companies that were receiving JobKeeper and found that 15% of them had actually boosted their turnover in April 2020. Frydenberg was altered to this in June, yet did not take any action until September when the eligibility requirements were changed.

"Over that period, billions of dollars went to firms that didn't need it and ended up in the pockets of millionaire CEOs and billionaire shareholders."

Labor MP Andrew Leigh

JobKeeper was created to keep Australians in jobs. The money was to help businesses continue to employ people, instead of laying them off. Employed people spend money, contribute to the economy, inject cash into businesses, so on and so forth. That's what a healthy economy looks like: sufficiently employed people, money being spent in Aussie businesses, those businesses then employing more people. It's a beautiful thing really. Instead, the Libs' scheme helped the rich get richer. It helped companies like Harvey Norman report earth-shattering profits.

The Liberals' foundation is in protecting and improving the economy. They stand for minimal intervention into the community, known as laissez faire, French for 'let it be'. The party was created to be best for business, best for the financial health of the country, state, and city. But in 2021, the federal Libs are better known for lies and looking after the high-income earners, the big businesses whether or not they're even an Australian company, for example, European luxury brand Louis Vuitton pocketed $6 million in payments.

Voting for the Liberals is not a vote for the economy. It's supporting and validating continued dishonesty and secrecy. It's a vote for a greater class divide, the rich getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. A vote for the Liberals helps out the people in this country who don't need help. The Liberals are not fucking good for the economy.
